Invisalign Q & A

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a state-of-the-art way to correct your bite problems and straighten your teeth using clear plastic aligners. These BPA-free aligners are custom-made to the exact shape of your teeth. They’re also translucent, so others can’t tell when you’re wearing them.

Many teens and adults choose Invisalign over traditional metal braces because they’re discreet and removable. You can remove Invisalign to brush, floss, eat, and drink.

What orthodontic issues can Invisalign correct?

Invisalign is effective at straightening crooked teeth and correcting minor to moderate bite problems. Talk to the team at Swinney Morton Dental about Invisalign if you have:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Open bite
  • Crowded teeth
  • Gapped teeth

Thanks to advances in dental technology, Invisalign can treat more orthodontic issues than ever before. During your initial consultation, the team at Swinney Morton Dental takes digital X-rays. It does a complete full dental exam to determine if you’re a candidate for Invisalign.

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

Invisalign is an appealing choice for teens and adults who want straighter teeth without fixed brackets and wires. Some of the benefits of Invisalign include:

  • Improved appearance
  • Shorter treatment time
  • Improved oral hygiene
  • Easier eating and drinking
  • Fewer dental checkups

Traditional braces usually take 18 months to three years to correct orthodontic problems, compared to Invisalign’s treatment time of 6-18 months. Since you have to take your clear aligners out to eat and drink, they’re also more hygienic than braces. You can brush and floss your teeth after every meal to maintain your oral health and keep your aligners clean.

What can I expect from the Invisalign process?

Invisalign uses modern technology to create your treatment plan. Using the iTero® digital scanner, the team takes impressions of your teeth and uploads your scans into Invisalign’s proprietary software. They then use these digital scans to create your customized treatment plan.

Once your plan is created, Invisalign makes your custom aligners. Every two weeks, you move on to a new set of aligners. It’s crucial that you wear your aligners at least 22 hours a day to stay on track with your expected treatment time.

If any adjustments to your plan are needed, the team can tweak your treatment directly in the Invisalign software.
